The development of cloud technologies has gained momentum in recent years
It looks like Alibaba is on Amazon’s way. Recently, the Asian retail company announced that it plans to diversify its business in the future. The new Director of Alibaba, Daniel Zhang, does not exclude that the development of cloud technologies will become the main business of the company.
Zhang said that the economy of the future is an economy of technology and artificial intelligence. He believes that cloud technologies will be of strategic importance in many areas of business, and is likely to become the main focus of Alibaba’s activities in the future.
It is interesting that a few years ago Amazon made such a step. To date, the brainchild of Jeff Bezos is one of the leaders of the cloud market. In particular, the development of cloud technologies allowed Amazon to monopolize this sphere in Great Britain.
However, it is not a fact that in the future the position of the American giant will remain high. Alibaba recently opened its first data center in the British Isles. Experts note that the company rapidly develops in this direction. In particular, it is noted that Alibaba actively invests in the development of its own cloud services and improves them with phenomenal speed, gradually starting to crowd in this area such “sharks” as Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
Alibaba and the development of cloud technologies
The financial performance of Alibaba confirmed by the views of analysts. The third quarter of 2018 showed that the level of income of the online retail division engaged in the development of cloud technologies amounted to 5.67 billion yuan. This is 90% more than the company had last year for the same period. Moreover, the sphere of cloud technologies Alibaba brought it 7% of total revenue against 5% in 2017.
Alibaba’s drive to diversify its business is logical. The company is one of the leaders in the retail market, and not to become a host
age of one sphere, plans its future now.
It is to be recalled that on 11 November, the day of the Chinese holiday “Bachelor’s Day”, Alibaba sold goods for almost 31 billion dollars. At the same time, the first billion was received in just 85 seconds from the start of sales. Total revenue for the day was twice as high as the aggregate figures for Cyber Monday and Black Friday 2017.
