Internet of things devices: they are chained together
When the devices of the Internet of things are mentioned, it is often talking about smart home appliances. And are, for example, cars of the Internet of things, carrying goods to a distribution center? Let’s try to figure it out.
What is the Internet of Things (IoT)
Internet of Things (IoT) is a space where real things and digital objects are combined into a single system. For example, in a situation where a refrigerator orders food on the site, the first is the thing and the second is the object. It is expected that the development of IoT will soon erase the border between these concepts.
Technologies used in the Internet of Things: RFID (radio frequency identification) and wireless sensor networks. Is the IOT car an object? Of course, if his movement is tracked by RFID tags, GPS, etc.
Every object is tracked. The object (thing) is the first level of IOT.
Objects are united in local networks. A smart home is a group of things that interact with each other.
A smart city is a smart home, as well as a variety of services that make life easier for people (again let’s remember the refrigerator that can order food).
The sensory planet is a smart city and country in a single system.
All have long been accustomed to, that everything is tracked in logistics. The labels are on the car, but when pallets with goods are taken out of it, they also have a radio frequency beacon. The product is on the shelves, but on some of its units are identification tools. When labeled products disappear from the shelf, this is a signal to replenish the range.
Recently there was news that towels were missing from a certain hotel. While no waterproof transmitters were glued to each of them, no leakage of hotel equipment (in the laundry room) was found.
An RFID tag transmits an analog signal to a transmitter.
Wireless sensor networks
This is a network of many sensors and radio frequency tags. A single network is, for example, a distribution center, a supermarket or a smart home. In such networks, information is digital and is encrypted using certain protocols.
The “things” still do not have a single language and standardization. A person who has set himself a smart home system is unlikely to be able to install a third-party device into it.
Also, many people are terrified by the total human control system. The route of a person, his biometric data, state of health, etc.: the “system” knows everything. The attacker can also connect to this data.
There is also the issue of how much a person without his favorite gadgets can survive outside the usual digital world. After all, a generation in heated jackets will come soon, which is sure that the bread grows in the store, and the milk initially appears in the package.
It is expected that the development of IOT and the increase in network-connected things, a person will live easier. There will be many opportunities and discoveries in logistics, transportation, marketing, advertising and related industries. Every person has the right to decide how much to trust his life to the Internet of things. The future has come, but we can still control it.
